How Does Your Brain Develop? by Dwayne Godwin and Jorge Cham

This picture reminds me of something that’s frequented my mind a lot the past few months; since when is it “cool” or “in” to suddenly be apart of the mentally ill community? In the past week I’ve herd at least a dozen people claim to be riddled with anxiety, depression, anorexia, bulimia, ADD, OCD, bi-polar disorder, and, most commonly, insomnia. The words stream out of their mouths like embers from a fire; often causing no harm, but when they do hit something, they can burn for days. People, mostly teenagers, treat these ‘labels’ as if they were the same found on the tags located at the high-end boutiques, fervently waving them around for all to see like the latest designer handbag. It’s sad, and puzzling; why would anybody wish such demeaning names to be willingly attached to their own? I don’t understand.
